Ingredients
- 1/2 pound Italian sausage, hot, sweet or both
- 1/2 cup green pepper, chopped
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 1 can (16 ounces) whole tomatoes, drained
- 1/2 loaf Italian bread
- 3 eggs
- 2-1/2 cups milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese
Method
Step 1
Remove casing from sausage. Brown sausage, breaking it up. Stir in green pepper and onion. Cook 5 minutes. Add tomatoes breaking up the pieces. Cook 15 minutes to remove most of the liquid.
Step 2
Slice bread. Place half in the bottom of a greased 8x8-in baking pan. Top with meat mixture. Top with remaining bread.
Step 3
Beat eggs. Stir in milk and salt. Pour over bread. Sprinkle with cheese. Cover and refrigerate 1 hour or overnight.
Step 4
Bake at 325° for 1 hour. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.
