Ingredients

  • 2 pounds stew meat, cut into 1-in cubes
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • oil
  • 2 onions quartered
  • 5-6 carrots, peeled and sliced
  • 5 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 1 can (28 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 1 package Lipton onion soup mix
  • 3/4 cup red wine
  • 1-1/4 cup water, divided
  • 3/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch

Method

Step 1

Lightly shake beef with flour and brown in oil over medium high heat.

Step 2

Layer onion, carrots and potatoes in crock pot. Top with beef, tomatoes, onion soup mix, wine, 1 cup of water and pepper. Cook on low 9-10 hours until beef is tender.

Step 3

In a bowl combine cornstarch, and remaining water. Mix into pot 10 minutes before serving and heat until thickened.
