Ingredients

  • 1 cup margarine
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, separated
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Method

Step 1

Beat margarine until fluffy. Mix sugar, cinnamon and salt. Beat into butter then beat in egg yolk. Add flour 1/2 cup at a time. Mix well after each addition. You may have to use your hands for last 1/2 cup.

Step 2

Turn dough onto ungreased 15-in. x 10-in. baking sheet. Pat dough evenly with your fingers over the entire pan.

Step 3

Lightly beat egg white with fork until foamy. Brush over top of dough. Sprinkle entire surface with chopped nuts and tap lightly all over with back of spoon or fork.

Step 4

Bake at 325° for 40 minutes. While still hot, cut into 48 bars. Cool in pan on wire rack. Can be stored 2 to 3 days in airtight container.
