Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 cups peeled and chopped apples, or 1 can (20 ounces) sliced apples, chopped
  • Cool Whip

Method

Step 1

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and beat well. Sift dry ingredients and add to first mixture. Fold in apples, nuts and vanilla. Bake in greased 10-in. pie plate at 350° for 35 to 40 minutes. Top with Cool Whip or whipped cream.

Step 2

Doubled recipe makes 3 9-in. pies. Pies freeze well after baking. Thaw before serving.
